Children's Book Review

Our Favourite Children’s Books that Celebrate Summer!

The paddling pool is out, the sun is well and truly shining so here’s our favourite children’s books that celebrate summer. We’ve included a range of chapter books, books with summer activity ideas, picture books and non fiction!

Our favourite summer chapter books:

Clifftoppers (3 Book Series) We’ve been reading these as bedtime stories but they would make a lovely first chapter book series for children who are starting to be able to read longer books. The stories are wonderful and celebrate summer, adventures, the great outdoors and spending time with family.

Our favourite books of things to do over the summer:

National Trust: 50 Things To Do Before You’re 11 3/4: An Outdoors Adventure Handbook – We are in love with this book, its brilliant. It is bursting with ideas of things your children can do outside (or inside if its rainy) to ignite their love of nature.

50 Things to Try on Holiday (Adventure Journal)– A wonderful journal style book of activities for kids to do on holiday. Great for boredom busting and keeping children happy and engaged on holidays.

Favourite summer themed picture books

Things I Love by Bear (Padded Picture Storybook)– Such an uplifting childrens book! Whilst not just about the summer, many of bears favourite things that he loves are linked to the summer- so we think it well and truly deserves it’s place in our favourite summer books.

Impossible!

– This book is fantastic and so funny! It’s all about a dog that is desperate to go to the seaside, but due to the distance thinks it’s impossible to go there. That is until he makes an unlikely friend!

Favourite Non fiction Summer Books

Cities of the World– Wow! this book is stunning. An amazing book for teaching young children about 12 of the most iconic cities in the world. Not only that, but thanks to some clever page cut outs,  children can peep through each of the pages to see the next city!
