Speech, language and communication are important skills for children to develop. These skills help children to form friendships, engage in learning and develop their reading and writing abilities.
But how can you help children to develop them? And what do you do if they are still struggling?
Here are my Top Tips:
Read, Read, Read– I can’t stress the importance of books enough! Whether it be reading to children, reading with children, listening to children read or even letting them see that you read books too (modelling a love of literacy)- reading books is vital to helping children develop their speech, language and communication skills. Not only do books help widen vocabulary but they also encourage conversations and basic comprehension skills. This is a great one to ensure parental collaboration at home (with reading journals etc)
