If you’re looking for a fun, easy, craft- this flower (daffodil) Craft one might be for you. It requires very little preparation and equipment and it is great fun.

What do you need?

• Paper Cup
• Scissors
• Paper
• Paint
• Paintbrush
• Glue
• Pencil crayons

How do you make it?

• Make short cuts (half the cup) in the paper cut downwards towards the base. Depending on the child’s ability they could do this theme selves under supervision, or an adult may choose to do this for them (risk assess your own activity as always)

• Cut the base of the paper cup out (this should be done by an adult)
• Put the cup upside down on the paper and press downwards so that the ‘petals’ stick outwards.
• Put glue on the underside of each petal and hold down onto the paper to stick in place.

• Paint the flower! I had intended for the flower to be yellow like most daffodils we see, however the children wanted it red- which was fine by me!

• Colour some paper green and then cut out the shape of a stem and leaves.
• Stick the stem and leaves at the base of the flower.

What skills does this craft help children develop?

• Scissor skills– under supervision and when children are ready, it’s important to encourage kids to practise using scissors safely so they can learn how to cut with scissors independently.

• Creativity– This is a lovely activity for fostering a love of all things creative. The end result is beautiful and something children will be proud of.

• Fine motor skills – this activity is fantastic for developing fine motor skills as children are painting and colouring.
