We were excited to receive our copy of Mr Tumble Something Special Magazine this week. For those of you who haven’t bought it before, it’s a fun, educational magazine based on the Mr Tumble Something Special TV programme.
The magazine (like the programme) is aimed at all pre-school aged children and is particularly useful for those with special educational needs and disabilities.
What do we like about it?
The magazines are full of stories, colouring pages , stickers, activities, crafts and includes makaton signing system on every page. Great for entertaining and educating young children. We also love that the magazine promotes awareness of special educational needs and disabilities.
This month’s Magazine: February
Knowledge learnt:
– Chickens: We learnt all about what chickens eat, what noises they make, how eggs can hatch into baby chicks and where chickens sleep. A great topic to help get children excited for spring.
–Food– This month’s magazine had a lot of information for children on food including what chefs need to cook with and what people eat for different meals. Parents will be pleased to know there’s a lot of promotion of eating vegetables!
–The Colour Purple: This edition focuses on Purple and helps children learn the colour through stickers, colouring and identifying objects (socks!) of that colour.
Activities :
– Colouring– There’s a great selection of varied colouring activities this month from rockets to clothes, helping encourage children to practise their pencil control and fine motor skills.
– Craft Activities– We loved the two main craft activities: the collage fish and creating Mr Tumble’s garden. Both activities are fantastic for practising scissor skills.
– Pre-Writing and Early Writing Skill Activities : Activities for helping children learn how to write are gently reinforced on most pages of this month’s magazine. We enjoyed forming the numbers 1-4, following wiggly lines and drawing spoons and circles.
Favourite Activity:
This month our favourite activity was “Sticking down Mr Tumbles lunch” we enjoyed discussing our own lunch and finding the correct stickers.
Gift:
The gift inside this month’s magazine was very popular. It includes Mr Tumble, his house, a foam cat and teddy! Brilliant toys for encouraging small-world and Imaginative Play.

The magazine seems great! However, I’m glad we haven’t bough this particular one as Penguin is terrified of chickens! He would probably have gone off the Mr Tumble magazine for life! 😵😌x #BlogCrush
