This week we’ve been making bird feeders for the garden, a really simple idea that’s great fun, beneficial to garden wildlife and cheap to do.

What do you need?

• Lard/fat
• String/pipe cleaner
• Yoghurt pot
• Bird seed
• Pan

1.Eat the yoghurts! Great excuse!

2.Clean the yoghurt pots, adult make a hole in the bottom. Thread pipe cleaner through and tie knot in one end to keep in place.

3.Melt lard in a pan (adult as it gets very hot), take off the heat and mix in the seeds.

4.Leave to cool a little bit and (adult) pour into the yoghurt pot. We found by putting the yoghurt pot in a jug of cold water it set really fast and stopped leaks of the lard out of the hole at the bottom of the pot.

5.Once set, cut away the yoghurt pot carefully (it’s a bit tricky so grown ups do this bit) and hang your bird feeder!
