I’m so excited to share that my latest book for Bloomsbury ‘SEND Strategies for the Secondary Years’ is officially published today! Find it here or in any other major bookshop
It still feels a little surreal to finally be able to say that. This book has been such a huge part of my life over the past year or so, and I’m absolutely delighted that it’s now out there for parents, carers, teachers and anyone supporting young people with SEND.
This book follows on from my previous book SEND Strategies for the Primary Years.
Why I Wrote It
So many families and educators tell me the same thing: the secondary years can feel like a huge leap. Needs become more complex, expectations grow, and the support available doesn’t always grow with them. I wanted to create something practical, reassuring and genuinely useful for this stage, something that helps adults feel more confident and helps young people feel more understood.
What’s Inside
The book is split into seven key areas of need, each with clear explanations and lots of easy‑to‑implement strategies. It covers areas like:
- emotional regulation
- sensory processing differences
- Speech, language and communication
- literacy development
- Numeracy skills
- Motor skills and physical coordination
- concentration and organisation
Everything is written from a neuro‑affirming perspective, with the aim of helping young people thrive, whether they have a diagnosis or not.
For Both Home and School
One thing that was really important to me was making sure the strategies work in both settings. Young people don’t switch their needs on and off depending on where they are, so the support shouldn’t either. Whether you’re a parent navigating homework and routines, or a teacher trying to create a more inclusive classroom, I hope you’ll find ideas.
A Huge Thank You
To everyone who has supported me, shared their experiences, or trusted me with their stories, thank you. And to the young people with SEND who inspired every page of this book, I’m endlessly grateful.
I really hope SEND Strategies for the Secondary Years becomes a helpful companion for you and the young people you support.
Happy publication day!
